Listed above are the main tools I use to work on my BMW. They are listed somewhat in order of what I use the most. If you’re brand new to DIY, you don’t need a lot of tools to get started. You also don’t need the best of the best. Buy what you need for the job and upgrade/ accumulate as needed.

Being German, everything on the car is metric. BMW also uses both Torx and external Torx bolts extensively in their cars. A basic socket set and some Torx/ E-Torx bits will get you through 90% of DIY projects. Some jobs like battery replacement will require programming afterward, but fear not, apps like Carly and ProTool make it easy for someone with little to no skill to complete.
