In the BMW world, “M Sport” is a package sought out by enthusiasts that adds aggressive bumpers and side skirts, larger brakes, and driver focused suspension. Because F30’s with the M Sport package are so desirable, they tend to be harder to find and always demand a higher price. Luckily, for those of use who have bought a non-M Sport F30, changing the bumpers isn’t as difficult as you might think. In this guide, I’ll show you how to convert your F30 BMW’s front bumper to an M Sport bumper.
The M Sport bumpers from Kies Motorsports come unpainted. The paint shop will ask for your VIN number so they can order the exact paint color for your car. You’ll also give them your fuel door so they can be sure the color is a perfect match. Expect to pay around $400 to have the front bumper professionally prepped and painted. I had the front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts painted all at once for $1,000. A quality professional paint job is not cheap, but this is not an area to cut corners (speaking from experience).
Tools required: Torx bit sockets, 8mm socket, pry tool, rubber mallet, electric ratchet
Install time: 3 hours
Step 1
Open the hood and remove the rubber weather stripping from the bumper.
Step 2
Remove the T30 screws from the top of the bumper.
Step 3
Remove the 8mm screws and fasteners from the underside of the bumper.
Step 4
Remove the 8mm screws from the wheel well.
Step 5
Unplug the fog lights on each side. If you have parking sensors, there’s an additional harness to unplug on the passenger side.
Step 6
At this point, you can carefully remove the stock bumper and set it aside. I put a blanket on the floor so it wouldn’t get scratched.
Step 7
Transfer the kidney grilles from the stock bumper to the new M Sport bumper.
Step 8
Install the lower mesh grilles which are included with the new bumper. The fitment is tight and a rubber mallet will help snap them in place.
Step 9
Transfer the fog lights which are held in with T25 screws.
Step 10
Unclip the parking sensors and clip them into the new M Sport bumper.
Step 11
Remove the 8mm screw and body fastener to remove the stock brake ducts.
Step 12
Remove the 8mm bolts to remove this brace. According to Kies, this brace is not used with the M Sport bumper, and the new bumper won’t fit with it on.
Step 13
Remove the radiator shroud by unclipping it at the top and pulling down.
Step 14
Install the new radiator shroud supplied in the kit.
Step 15
Install the new brake ducts using the fasteners and 8mm screws from the previous step.
Step 16
Carefully install the new M Sport bumper on the car.
Step 17
Secure the bumper using the 8mm screws and body fasteners.
Step 18
Finally, install the BMW roundel.
